As #Christmas rolls around, I once again post this timeless illustration by Everett Patterson from 2014, titled “José y Maria”. Ever more poignant today.
Anti-DEI is white supremacy. Black lives matter. LGBT+ rights are human rights. Healthcare, security, a decent income, and housing with dignity are human rights. Abortion is healthcare. Science is our best hope as a species. Rev. Michael Woolf, senior minister of Lake Street Church of Evanston, was shot in the leg with a pepper ball by state police while protesting outside the Broadview ICE facility, Illinois. He writes for Religion News Service about why he continues to show up at Broadview, the atmosphere at protests there, and religious leaders' obligation to resist tyranny. "It is important for my neighbors who were abducted to know that we will not stop fighting for their release," he writes. "By my estimation, our country is somewhere in 1930s Germany. Fascism is growing in power, but we still have opportunities to resist."
